MARTYN:  AEJF Qualifications Regional Referee, Regional Coach. Intermediate TKR, Grading Officer

He started Judo in June 1979 at the age of 8 and quickly discovered the attraction. His first grading in 1979 earned him a full white belt (1st Kokyu). He attained 6th Kokyu (Junior Brown Belt) at age 15 and 1st Kyu (Senior Brown Belt) in 1989. 1st Dan was achieved in 1991 and 2nd Dan in 1995. He took over Stanway Judo Club in 1989.
Always keen on competitions, the height of Martyn's Junior career was to become National Champion in 1986 (45 kg) and be in the winning Area Team for that year. This earned a 'cap' where he represented Gt. Britain against Holland the following year. Many other trophies have been won, including several Junior and Senior Area Championships, National and International competitions.

Martyn has been awarded Honorary Life Membership with the Amateur Judo Association and was qualified as S.E. Area Grading Officer, Refereeing and Coaching Secretary, Area Referee and in 2000 was appointed as Regional Coach. Following a move away from Colchester, Martyn handed the club over to Dale and, although his involvement is limited, still retains a close interest in the club.

CHRISTINE & PETER:   AEJF 1st Dan (Honorary) and Advanced Time-keeper Recorders

Martyn's Mum and Dad have been involved in Judo as long as he has, but on the administration side. They  have  earned the International Time-keeper Recorder qualification with the Amateur Judo Association.  Christine was awarded Honorary Life Membership and Peter a Life Membership.

In September 2010, both Christine and Peter were awarded 1st Dan  (Honorary) by the  A.E.J.F in recognition of their voluntary services to Judo over the last 30 years.

Although their involvement at gradings and competitions can be hard work, they find it very rewarding - especially when they see youngsters coming up through the grades after starting out as novices. Both Christine & Peter have organised Area, National, International judo events. They are continuing with the Time-keeping Recorder activities with the All England Judo Federation as and when required.  They are both C.R.B. checked and have attended a First aid course.
